Last week we posted about the “12 Scams of Christmas”, and in addition, a new phishing scam is targeting PayPal users. Since many online shoppers feel that PayPal is a very secure form of payment, scammers are likely to target this confidence. While using the actual PayPal site is safe, e-mails that appear to be from them may not be. The newest phishing scam may include faulty links and also an attachment. If the attachment is opened and information is entered, it all becomes property of the hackers.
Remember that PayPal or other reputable sites will not send you an e-mail requiring you to enter information through a link or attachment. The most secure way to do your shopping or enter data is through the direct website itself.
